Simmons & Simmons is a world-class international law firm, with offices in all major business and financial centres across Europe, Asia and the Middle East. They focus on four significant industry groups, including energy and infrastructure, financial institutions, life sciences and technology, media and telecommunications.

Purpose of the project

The firm commits to providing clients with a significant number of qualified secondees on a rolling basis. A current trend in the FI Sector is the consolidation of panels, with the panel firms expected to provide an even bigger number of secondees in return for a larger percentage of the client’s legal spend. Since many clients have limited ability to grow permanent headcount, there will continue to be growth in demand for secondees, which is becoming increasingly difficult to meet.

Jarred Consulting supported the firm to develop an alternative resourcing model which was a dedicated, flexible resourcing pool of self employed lawyers who could assist in fulfilling client secondment requests as well as staffing extraordinary internal resource needs.

How Jarred Consulting helped

  • We established a working party to facilitate engagement across the business and champion the initiative.
  • Working closely with HR and the Resourcing team we established procedures and processes for:
    • Candidate identification
    • Assessment & selection
    • On boarding of new consultants
  • Hiring requests
  • Drafted all contractual documentation and worked with Compliance to ensure it was in line with legalities.
  • Developed a pricing mechanism taking into account varied client relationships
  • Developed a remuneration framework that is tied to the Firm’s associate pay scale taking into account the flexibility of the resource.
  • Supported the Marketing team to:
  • Design all promotional materials
  • Build online presence
  • Host a launch party
  • Worked with the Business Managers to manage client communications.
  • Recruited a permanent resource to administer the flexible resourcing model on a daily basis

Prior to handing the project over we had made several placements and interest in the initiative was growing.
