At the beginning of the year, Forbes published its top HR trends for the 2023 workplace.
As we move into the final quarter of 2023, we look at the first three and what we’ve learned about them over the years.
Employee wellbeing is a human imperative. This was never news only we’d add that of course it’s also a business imperative. When everyone thrives, your organisation thrives. Performance review when there’s little in the budget means using more human and personalised incentives. What we’ve learned is that the kind of loyalty, commitment and innovation that drives growth runs both ways – especially in difficult times.
Skills-based hiring is on the rise as companies recruit for potential rather than degrees. Again, no news here. We’ve known for some time the distress middle managers feel when they’re moved into positions without the toolkit they need to fulfil them. By looking for this kind of experience in new recruits or upskilling the people you already have you can be part of the healthy revolution taking place. It puts you ahead of your competition too.
The future of work is flexibility for all employees. We’ve found the terms flexible and hybrid being used interchangeably and they’re not the same thing. Make sure you know the difference. As we move further away from the pandemic, sustainability is the keyword now. By starting with desired outcomes and working backwards, we can establish new practices, boundaries and cultures that work for everyone.
What employees want now is what they’ve always wanted: human-centric people policies: the kind that focus on meaning, community, relationships and purpose. The pandemic, the great resignation and the economic downturn forced our hand on this and these practices and values are here to stay.
The best-performing companies will make these new ways work for them.
Have a great day.
