Here are a couple of statistics to get you thinking:
- Over half of those questioned in a Glassdoor survey stated that they value a company’s culture over salary.
- A Gallup poll found that engaged teams show a 14% increase in productivity and 81% less absenteeism
- The same Gallup study states that when it comes to performance, happiness and contentment are not the same thing as engagement. Disengaged employees want to be inspired.
In other words, if you want to attract and retain the people who are going to make your company prosper, you need to nail what you do and why you do it. If you think that offering things like flexible working conditions will be enough on their own, you’d be mistaken.
Stop and think about:
- When was the last time you thought about what you stand for?
- How visible are your values in the decisions you make?
- How do you let your principles guide your people deal?
- How do others keep in touch with them?
Giving employees what they want matters but so does performance. How do you balance the two in uncertain and changing times when people crave stability and belonging? How do you keep things fair and even, while answering the needs of DEI?
By giving everyone a sense of common purpose and operating in line with your principles.
How well do you know what these are?
